Council up for award following fight against Covid

A team mobilised by Dudley Council to help borough residents and businesses deal with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic has been shortlisted for an award.

The local authority’s Covid response team is up for the Public Services Award category in the Community Inspiration Awards 2022.

Now in its 10th year, the awards recognise outstanding contributions by individuals, groups or organisations who make a positive difference to the community and inspire others.

The team visited more than 2,000 residents to provide guidance and support around isolation and welfare following a positive test, and also worked tirelessly to promote the importance of testing, tracing and vaccination during the pandemic.

Councillor Nicolas Barlow, cabinet member for health and adult social care, said:

I am absolutely delighted to hear the team has been nominated for an award.
When it was mobilised it was unchartered territory for all of us, with no-one knowing what was going to happen next.
But they have worked long hours tirelessly to push key messages out to our residents and businesses, and to help those who have needed to isolate.
I will have everything crossed for them and hope they win on the night as a reward and a thank you for all of their hard work.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony due to be held on Tuesday March 29 in Birmingham.

The awards are organised by Community Foundation.
