Dudley’s new waste and recycling service gets underway
Dudley Council’s new waste and recycling service has started this week, kicking off on Monday 6 April.
As the new style service begins its collections, the council is reminding residents to check their collection day – which may have changed, as well as their new fortnightly schedule. People can find the details online at www.dudleyrecycles.org.uk, or call the council on 0300 555 2345.
The new schedule means one week crews will collect the black bin containing non recycling waste, and the next week the blue bin and blue bag recycling. Every week though, the home’s food waste caddy will be collected. Plus green bins will still be collected every fortnight for subscribed households.
A handy comprehensive information booklet was delivered inside the new bins, telling residents all about the new service, as well as listing what goes where, to help keep them up to date with all the changes. There’s also lots of information, along with FAQs at www.dudleyrecycles.org.uk
For flats and people who have communal waste and shared bins, collections remain unchanged. A new service for these residents will be launched at a later date.
Nick Mcgurk, group director for communities and growth, said:
“The new mandatory legislation requirements stating all councils must simplify and expand their household recycling, including introducing separate food waste collections are now in place in Dudley borough.
“Food waste recycling is completely new , but we’ve tried to make it as simple as possible. When recycled, food waste is turned into valuable resources - natural forms of energy and fertiliser, useful for us all.
“We have worked hard to make sure the move to the new system is as easy and streamlined as possible. With the new changes now taking place, we have issued lots of guidance and there are further details online. I am confident we can make the transition a successful one and really hope that we can encourage residents to play their part in our recycling efforts.”
