Positive changes for children and young people

Plans to bring about positive change to the lives of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will be outlined at an online event later this month.

Members of the public are invited to attend the launch of ‘All Different All Equal’, Dudley’s brand-new SEND strategy and inclusion charter on Thursday September 30 from 10.30am to 1.30pm.

The free event is particularly suitable for parents and carers of children and young people with SEND as well as professionals working in this field.

The event will be hosted by Dudley Council, Dudley Parent Carer Forum and the Black Country and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Groups.

The strategy and charter are part of the council’s SEND improvement programme and represents an exciting opportunity to bring about positive change for children, young people and their families.

Attendees will get to hear about how the strategy has been developed and what the strategy aims to achieve.
Renowned local runner “Blind Dave” Heeley will be the guest keynote speaker at the event. He will share inspirational stories of his life and promote that everything is possible.

Councillor Ruth Buttery, cabinet member for children and young people, said:

This is a key milestone in our work to improve the experiences and opportunities that are available to children and young people with SEND in our borough as we continue to work towards our Child Friendly Dudley initiative.
The title of the strategy says it all, we are all different, but we are all equal and this is something we are passionate about and will advocate throughout the delivery of this strategy.
The strategy outlines how we will remove barriers to learning, ensure that children and young people feel that their achievements are valued, that they are happy and enjoy school, lead healthy lifestyles, feel safe in their learning environments and are appropriately supported in order to achieve their full potential.
I would like to commend the tremendous efforts of those from Dudley’s Parent Carer Forum who have been instrumental in creating this strategy.
